Cymbalta is used for the treatment of depressions and anxiety disorders. It is also prescribed for diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
Cymbalta belongs to a group of drugs called Selective Serotonin and Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors. The drug works on the chemicals in the brain, which brings in mood changes.
The drug can be taken with food and also without food. The drug should only be swallowed and not crushed, chewed or broken as the drug has to be released slowly into the body.
While taking Cymbalta, follow the doctor’s direction. Never go for larger doses and do not use the drug for more days unless recommended. Moreover, you should have to complete the whole dose to get the best results.
Always maintain the right dosage and take it at the right time. If you feel of having taken an overdose, contact the doctor immediately.
Before Cymbalta is prescribed, inform the doctor about all your allergies and also about all your health conditions. You have to tell the physician if you have heart related problems, liver or kidney diseases, blood related issues, bipolar disorder and glaucoma.
As Cymbalta is rated FDA pregnancy category C, the drug is known to cause harm to the unborn babe. The drug is not prescribed to pregnant women, especially during the third trimester. While taking Cymbalta, do not breast feed as the drug may pass into breast milk.
